The Kingdom unveils 'fastest street track' layout ever

Formula One has released a first look of the street circuit that will host the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix later this year...

The new Saudi Arabian street circuit in Jeddah which joins the Formula 1 calendar in December promises to be the second-longest circuit on the calendar after Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium running at 6.175km with 27 corners with simulations predicting an average speed of over 250km/h.

Sitting on the banks of the Red Sea the track developed in partnership by Tilke Engineers and F1’s own Motorsports Division, the circuit features high-speed esses, chicanes and several long straights with three marked areas for DRS overtaking zones.

Commenting on the tracks reveal, Crown Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Faisal, president of the Saudi Automobile & Motorsport Federation (SAMF) said: “We are looking forward to welcoming motorsport fans to Saudi Arabia. Next December will be a huge moment, when we host the biggest event in Motorsports (Formula 1). This is a continuation of the endless support that sports in general, and Motorsport in particular, is receiving from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman. Even though this is the first time we will host a Formula 1 Grand Prix, delivering such important international events is further confirmation of the Kingdom’s ability to manage and organize these events to the highest standards for our fans and growing young population.”
