Current F1 world champion Max Verstappen, 24 has signed a new deal with racing team Red Bull worth £40 million a year, (approx $53.3 million) which will see him stay with the team until the end of 2028.

Max joined Red Bull back in 2016 and from the start he was touted as the next big thing in racing, finally secured his maiden championship win after beating Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the 2021 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Dutchman's current contract was set to expire at the end of the 2023 season but this extention now see's him locked in for a further six years and as joint-highest-paid driver in F1 with Lews Hamilton.

Speaking of his new contract Max commented: "I really enjoy being part of the Oracle Red Bull Racing Team, so choosing to stay to the 2028 season was an easy decision. I love this Team and last year was simply incredible, our goal since we came together in 2016 was to win the championship and we have done that, so now it's about keeping the number one on the car long-term."

The newly crowned world champion will begin his title defense in Bahrain on 20th March.
