Michael Masi REPLACED as F1 race director after 2021 Abu Dhabi GP finale fiasco

Race Director Michael Masi has been replaced as F1 race director following a review into last year's Abu Dhabi GP, the FIA has confirmed..


The fiasco of the last race of the F1 2021 season which saw Max Verstappen pass Lewis Hamilton for a controversial race and title win after a safetly car decision made by Michael Masi has finnally been reviewed for the F1 governing body FIA with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem confirming a number of structural changes as part of a 'step forward for Formula 1, with both Niels Wittich, former DTM race director, and Eduardo Freitas, WEC race director both acting alternatively as F1's race director with the assistance of Herbie Blash as a permanent senior advisor.


The new race management trio will be in place for the for the three day's pre season training taking place in Barcelona next week.


Newly-elected FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said that Masi “accomplished a very challenging job for three years as F1 race director following Charlie Whiting” and will be relocated to a new role within the FIA in the coming days.
